Book Club: The Return of the Prodigal Son

This October, the Henri Nouwen Society Book Club will gather to reflect on one of Henri’s most beloved and transformative works: The Return of the Prodigal Son. Inspired by Rembrandt’s painting of the same name, Henri invites us to enter deeply into the biblical story of forgiveness, reconciliation, and unconditional love.

Throughout the month, we will explore Henri’s reflections on the three central figures—the younger son, the older son, and the father—and discover how their experiences mirror our own journeys of loss, longing, and the search for belonging. Henri’s words guide us gently to understand that God’s love meets us in our brokenness and calls us into a deeper life of mercy, compassion, and self-discovery.

Our book club provides a welcoming space for readers to reflect, share insights, and connect with a global community on Zoom.

Whether you are encountering this work for the first time or revisiting it with fresh eyes, we would be delighted to have you join us. Together, we will explore the tender, transformative power of God’s love and learn how to extend that love in our own lives.
