Book Club: The Wounded Healer

This June, we invite you to join the Henri Nouwen Society Book Club as we explore one of Henri’s most influential and enduring works: The Wounded Healer. In this foundational book, Henri offers a vision of spiritual leadership rooted not in strength or perfection, but in compassion, vulnerability, and shared humanity. He reminds us that it is often through our own wounds—and the healing we ourselves seek—that we become able to minister to others with authenticity and love.

Throughout the month, we’ll reflect together on Henri’s profound insights about loneliness, service, and the spiritual journey of those who care for others. With characteristic gentleness, Henri challenges us to recognize our own inner struggles not as obstacles, but as places where Christ’s transforming presence can be found and shared. As we read, we’ll consider how each of us, in our ordinary lives, is invited to bring hope, presence, and understanding to those around us.

Our book club offers a supportive, contemplative space on Zoom for readers from across the globe to connect, learn, and grow.

Whether you’re familiar with The Wounded Healer or discovering it for the first time, we would be delighted to have you journey with us. Together, we’ll explore what it means to accompany one another with compassion—and how our own wounds can become pathways to deeper healing and grace.
