Lord of Abundance
We constantly try to hold onto our old logic and Jesus keeps trying to break through it to a new way of being. We are afraid of letting this happen because when we let Jesus enter the center of our lives, our hearts, we will not have control anymore. Maybe we will not have enough to survive in this harsh world. What Jesus keeps promising are realities that we cannot grasp because they are concerned with eternal life. His miracles are signs of that life. Jesus says to us, “Do you remember how much bread was left over? Do you remember the catch of fish? How can I make you trust me, make you believe that with me you will not lack anything? Again and again, when Jesus appears there is more than we need. The Lord is a Lord of abundance who calls us into the kingdom of freedom, peace, joy – that is what finally made the disciples believe, leave their nets, and follow Jesus to their true home.
Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.
- Luke 5: 5, 6
Reflection Question: In what ways are you struggling to believe that with Jesus you will not lack anything?
