  1. Miriam:

Poverty makes a good host. Pg 103

The insights on this line were very deep and provided food for thought. Extremely beautiful !

The rest of the book is equally thought-provoking…. and wonderful. Henri Nouwen is an intelligent scholar and a delightful servant of God.

  3. Susan Vining:

Reading about the poles of loneliness and solitude, hostility and hospitality and illusion and prayer raised the struggles and joys that are my own closer to the surface. I have been graced with restored faith, but reflecting on what Nouwen is saying to us made me think that not only is faith belief in that which is unseen, but perhaps faith is belief despite the things we have seen, in our lives, in our world. If so,it can make the need for shedding illusions for the prayer of our heart all the more difficult and all the more needed.
