Book discussion with Jack Given begins February 4th
Henri Nouwen’s Walk with Jesus÷š ×?’ Stations of the Cross will take us through the 15 stations of the cross in the 40 days of Lent.÷š The schedule will allow participation and reflections similar to the Daily Reflections and you’ll find the schedule in the “pages” section, posted under “Walk with Jesus”. There will be no posted questions for discussions per chapter; there is simply the opportunity and invitation for readers to share how the chapter was meaningful to them. We are a community of believers and sharing is a community activity. Some may want to take this opportunity to have a small study group in their local community to use this Lenten Season study as a learning and bonding experience. If so, please share the thoughts of your group.÷š Let×?Ts pray that our walk with Jesus will be richer in 2008 because of WALK WITH JESUS during Lent 2008. We begin on Monday February 4th.
Blessings,
Jack

Greetings to All
I would appreciate any insights my fellow readers have on the pictures in the book. It seems to me that the subjects accepted the ”cross” that were given to them. I am sure there is much more that is not apparent to me.

I “met” Nouwen many years ago when I read “Wounded Healer.” That book had been recommended to me, even though I was a Protestant pastor. Since then I’ve gotten to know Jack and appreciate him so if he’s leading the blog, I want to be there! As we travel through Lent, 2008 may the familiar words of the old prayer become even more true for all of us: “See Jesus more clearly; love Him more dearly; follow Him more nearly.”

Greetings to All
Let me share a few observations of the photo of the man in prison. I have done volunteer teaching welding metallurgy in a local prison. My students seemed very appreciative of the effort to help them. It some ways is “mirrors” the experience Henri had with some of his contacts.

Hi All,
I live in Regina Sk, Canada. And yes, Brenda, Ontario does mean a lot to me, but I happen to know it is BIG province, so where in Ontario?
Hi Patty! I’m in Kitchener-Waterloo area. I was born in North Bay, Ont. but moved to this area about 40 yrs ago now.
I just received the booklet today and am now reading “Jesus is Condemned, the more I Belong to God, the More I will be Condemned.” it is MUCH food for thought and once I ponder it more, I will be commenting. I have decided to attend Mass at least 3x weekly during this Lent and will fast one meal at least during the day. Prayers go out to all of you and we journey closer to God during this Lenten season!
God Bless.
Brenda

Wow, as I read these comments, I think of how far reaching Jesus is. The same Jesus active in my small community is alive and well across the world. This same Jesus wants us all to know him better, to walk this lenten season with him and I look forward to sharing this walk with you all here in south Louisiana.

Thank you for providing a Walk with Jesus for Lent! I reside in Louisiana. Recently I have been searching for a faith sharing experience and this seems like an answer to my prayers.

As I am a novice to the meditation/ practice of Lent AND love to read what Henri Nouwen shares I look forward to this community discussion! I first read his work in “Wounded Healer’ as recommended for my Stephen Ministry training (like Sharon- hi!). it significantly affected me. I’ve had ‘Walk With Jesus’ for a couple years but this reflection is a further invitation from God to continue on His path. I live in (warm) Southern California USA but He is ‘moving’ me out of my ‘comfort zones’ in alot of ways! In agreement with Patty’s (& Jesus’) desire for unity, Julie

I have have been reading Nouwen’s books since the late ’70’s. The First one I read was “A Cry for Mercy” and I was totally taken by his honesty and personal style of writing. I have been reading him ever since and to me he has walked my walk with me all these years - though I never had the opportunity to meet him in person. I look forward to this lenten walk with all of you.
May we all be one in Jesus.

Hello,
I have been an avid reader of Nouwen’s books for about 7 months now, having read roughly 10 books. He has been a profound inspiration for me, as well as my mentor. His teachings, as well as scriptural study, have changed my life and approach to others. Service to those in need is now what I strive to do. With prayer and focus on reading and solitude, I hope to achieve a true influence in the lives of others.I plan on visiting the L’Arche group in Seattle this month to bring back ideas and perhaps start a home here in the Midwest.

Hello everyone, I don’t have the book as yet. I just ordered it last week, so I can’t comment yet. I’m in Ontario, Canada if that means anything to anyone. Hope to come back with some insightful comments once I get the book.
God Bless!

Hi,
I live in Detroit, Michigan. A member of my Stephen Ministry team (lay caregiving) introduced me to Henri Nouwen and now each morning I welcome his meditation that comes to me via the computer. Always I have found that the meditation touches a cord in me and I believe strengthens my relationship with God and others. I have read several of his books and look forward to reading this one and the opportunity given here for sharing and discussion. There is much need for healing in this world.
God’s Peace,

I was introduced to Henri’s writings about a dozen years ago. He is a spiritual mentor to me - his humanity and ability to speak the Word just blows me away. I have read many of his books and often go back to them - they have certainly gifted my life. Also I have never focused on the stations of the cross as part of my spirituality - so this is a first for me and I feel very drawn to it this Lenten season.
Does anyone know of an on-line version for Steve? I’d be happy to transcribe it if allowed (or scan it perhaps) - I imagine mailing a copy would take forever. Looking forward to the discussions with everyone.

It has been 2 years since I was blessed to participate the Henri Nouwen conference in Toronto (Turning the Wheel). I would say I am doubly blessed to have met and understood more about Henri’s spirituality and Jesus’ example of downward mobility through his brother Laurent. I look forward to enriching my journey by joining your virtual community/discussion and walk with Jesus. Thank you for including me and blessings… Coy

HI, my name is Robyn. I am a writer and Bible teacher in California.
I am a long time devotee of Henri Nouwen’s work, and though I never met him, I consider Henri to be one of my spiritual mentors. His vulnerability, honesty, and devotion to spiritual enlightenment have encouraged and stimulated my spiritual growth.
I’ve just ordered the book and look forward to its arrival and joining this discussion.

Hello everyone,
My name is Steve and I am currently in Afghanistan on a one year tour with the Army. Although I do not have access to the book itself, I know I will get the inspiration and understanding that I am supposed to get at this point and time in my life. I look forward to sharing thoughts with you. I wish this Lenten Season to be fruitful so I am going to relax and Let God be God.

The recording has been of great help to me so I look forward to sharing “Walk with Jesus” with you all.
Have only ordered it today so hope it arrives in time for me to participate from the start!
Regards,
John.

Before we begin our Lenten study of Walk With Jesus, I’d like to give us an opportunity to introduce ourselves and our participation in this blog. For me, Nouwen has been a life-line in enunciating the values and depth of the Christian pilgrimage. Not having a spiritual discipline background, moderating this blog on the stations of the cross is not only a new exposure to the discipline of Lent but a challenge to my thinking, tradition and comfort zone. I am looking forward to reading and sharing the stations and the impact, contributions and experiences of other readers in walking through this traditional for some but absent for others 40 days in the church calendar.

I look forward to joining you in reading Walk with Jesus. I’m going to miss the Lenten Bible study at church due to my starting school so this is great. Peace and blessings to all!!
