  1. Sharon DiCecco:

Good Morning to Ed, Ann, Sally, Patty and all fellow readers!

My name is Sharon DiCecco and am thrilled to discover this website - good stuff! I have been an avid reader of Henri Nouwen’s books for years and would love to join in on this discussion. I will run out and buy
“With Burning Hearts” today. I started my Henri Nouwen adventure with “The Return of the Prodigal Son” and haven’t stopped since. In light of the upcoming 49th Eucharistic Congress in Quebec in 2008, I am going to focus on the Blessed Sacrament - God’s Gift for the world. Thanks to your hospitality Ed, this journey “with burning hearts” will be fruitful.

    Peace and Blessings,
    Sharon DiCecco

  2. Ann:

    PS

I was also happy to note that Henri wtote half the book in England ( where I live) and the other half in the USA. It makes the note of ‘Community’ feel stronger.

  3. Ann:

My book arrived yesterday; all the more special because it has been gifted to me by my husband, who has also been ‘gifted’ back to me after a life threatening illness earlier this year.
So far I have got no further than the wonderful introduction which so far I have read 3 times.
We have all said that resentment is something which we experience and that sometimes we feel ‘less than who we are’ because of that.
What struck me more than anything else in Henri’s ‘introduction’ is the message of hope and belief.
He says ” The 5 main aspects of the Eucharistic celebration form a movement. ( not a rut in which we are stuck) The movement from resentment to gratitude”
That struck me so forcibly. The fact that however much it may seem we are ’stuck’ we are NOT; we are moving away from resentment. ” What we celebrate, and what we are called to live are essentially one and the same” and this ” The Eucharistic event reveals the deepest human experiences”
This has struck such a cord of hope and joy for me.
That we are moving away from resentment to gratitude so that no matter what the obstacles we ” with joy draw water from the well of salvation”
This journey through the book with all of you is going to be a very grace filled experience as we progress towrds understanding gratitude and most of all joy. Most especially joy.
I am grateful to Ed and to all of you for your encouragement on the journey.

I just found the Onling Reading Group. I am looking forward to reading “With Burning Hearts” with others. I read it years ago when I lived at Daybreak (1990-1993). I have the book and will start reading it again keeping the first discussion question before me.

  5. Patty :):

    Welcome back, Ed!
I am pleased we are again here to share with each other. This is an awesome book. More later in the week. I am a wife, Mom, Gramma and retired teacher, now working fulltime as co-caregiver for toddler grandson, and loving the challenge and him. :)
