    Hi Nileve,

There is indeed a Henri Nouwen Society in The Netherlands, started by Henri’s brother Laurent Nouwen. Please see www.nouwen.org. Laurent would be pleased to hear from you.

    Dear Donna,

Many thanks for your comments and question. There are several “open to the public” Nouwen reading groups in California but not sure if they are close to your home. You can see details at: http://www.henrinouwen.org/programs/readinggroups/groups/.

We offer free resources to help you start your own group if this is something you might wish to consider. Information can be found on our reading group pages or you can call me toll free at 1-866-226-2158 x110. I would be happy to chat with you about starting a Nouwen reading group.

    Blessings,
    Maureen

    Hi,
I recently started reading Here and Now and found myself reading and rereading dfferent chapters and pages of the book as they serve as good reminders and reflections to my day to day decisons and living. I am now readng Way of the Heart as well.

I am also pleased to tell you that the launch of the Henri Nouwen Society UK is scheduled to take place on May 17th, 2010 at the London Centre for Spirituality. You can read about it in the news section (press releases) on www.HenriNouwen.org. You can contact them about reading groups as well.

I would like to start (or join) a group. I live in Scarborough, Toronto, Canada. Please e-mail me at enohlee@gmail.com We will then decide where and when to begin our group.

It is worth to invest some time and energy in sharing our life experiences through Henri Nouwen’s inspiring books. And support each other in the group.

  16. Bill Anderson:

I have been reading Nouwen for about two months. Life of the Beloved and Prodigal Son are the 2 titles that I have read and I finish them and start over again, finding more each time.

I am in Raleigh, NC. I would be interested in joining and started a reading group. I have been active in 12 Step groups for a quarter of a century. I find that
Nouwen and 12 Step Recovery to be complementary and has helped me in the spiritual aspect of the 12 Step programs, In fact, it has helped me make sense of what God is after an almost lifelong intellectual wresting match with religion, Christianity and spirituality in 2 months.

The books are profound, easy to read and not exclusionary to non-Christians. Anyone in the Traingle area and especially Raleigh that knows of an existing group or wants to start a group please contact me by email or phone at 919-218-4327.

    Thank you,

    Bill Anderson

Just read comments by Lorin and Al. I too am interested in a reading group in NYC. I am fairly new to Nouwen, having just discovered his wirtings about a year ago. Please let me know if others are interested!

  43. Al:

I’m in the tri-state area and am looking for a reading group in NYC or the surrounding area.

  44. Dave:

    Greetings from Peoria, IL.

I’m interested in a Nouwen reading group in the Peoria area. Moved here a couple of years ago to work for a certain heavy equipment manufacturer. I’m not too far from Springfield, but being married with two young kids, I’d rather keep things closer to home.

I was introduced to Nouwen’s writings in 1993 through Inter Varsity in southern California, when many of us read and were floored by Compassion. I attended seminary in Chicago and read Reaching Out with my advisee group. Wonderful ideas that I did very little with. Eight years later I rediscovered Nouwen via, believe it or not, Mr. Rogers. Recognizing in my own pinched, fitful, impoverished, so-called hospitality the result of my own lack of a healthy solitude - and spurred on by the mess this has made of much of my life - I’m returning to Nouwen’s work with a determination to actually Do Something With It. I can think of few better guides in this process. And I welcome any who are walking this road to explore it with me.

I plan to start with rereading Reaching Out, but am open to other suggestions.

    Regards,
    Dave
