The Henri Nouwen Letter Donation Campaign Phase II is a joint project of The Henri J. M. Nouwen Archives and Research Collection (University of St. Michael’s College) and the Henri Nouwen Society. The aim of the project is to collect letters written by Catholic priest, teacher and spiritual writer Henri Nouwen. These letters will be added to the Nouwen Archives, a repository of Nouwen’s personal papers and published works, for the use of scholars and other researchers interested in Nouwen’s life and work.
The Letter Campaign began in 1998 by the Henri Nouwen Legacy Trust, under the direction of Sr. Sue Mosteller. More planning and preparation work was undertaken in 2006-2007. Phase II will begin in July 2009.
Responsibilities
• Overseeing, implementing and monitoring project
• Organizing printing/mailing of letter/brochure and follow-up phone calls to 270 priority people identified in Phase I
• Developing/supervising a small group of volunteers to assist with calls/visits
• Arranging and executing personal visits to key people (Can., US, Europe)
• Maintaining a database and administrative files to monitor and track telephone calls, response etc.
• Publicizing campaign through the Internet, Societies, newspapers etc.
• Maintaining/providing content for a website about the Campaign
• Creating an intake system to manage letters when they arrive; deed of gift, tax receipts etc., token of appreciation and thank you letter
• Accessioning material into the Nouwen Archives
• Describing material in Nouwen Archives database
Qualifications
• College or university degree
• Exceptional organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated skills in project management
• Interest in Henri Nouwen, and a willingness to develop an in-depth knowledge of his life and work, studies in theology or Christian spirituality will be considered a very good asset
• Proficiency in computers, with particular strength in excel is necessary
• A willingness to travel; a car license will be an asset
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Contract duration: six months, with chance of renewal for additional six months, 35 hours/week; start date is flexible
Salary: $25-30/hour, plus 4% vacation pay
