At the 2009 Senior Graduation ceremony at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic College School, Madeline Montoya received the Henri Nouwen Award, sponsored by the Henri Nouwen Society. Ms. Montoya is currently attending Ryerson University and majoring in psychology. Her hopes are to attend graduate school after a degree in psychology. Ms. Montoya says she was pleasantly surprised and honored to receive the Henri Nouwen award: “It makes me feel like I've left a mark at Our Lady of the Lake. As I go through University I will look to this award for inspiration to keep following the teachings of Jesus and looking for the joy in rough times.”

The graduation ceremony took place on October 8th, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic College School in Keswick, Ontario, north of Toronto. The Henri Nouwen award was established in 2001. It is presented to the student who, in their daily life in Our Lady of the Lake community, lived the Gospel values by being inclusive of all people, who is known to listen attentively and compassionately to the concerns of others, who announces and celebrates the gifts of others and who strives to seek joy in sorrow.
