Jesus: A Gospel by Henri Nouwen, edited with an introduction by Michael O'Laughlin, illustrations by Rembrandt, was honored by the Catholic Press Association recently with two first place book awards. The publisher, Robert Ellsberg of Orbis Books, Maryknoll, NY was very pleased to announce that Orbis had won 19 awards in all, including six first place awards. Orbis has published several of Nouwen's books including, Adam - God's Beloved, With Burning Hearts. Walk with Jesus, The Road to Peace, Henri Nouwen - Selected Writings.
In awarding first place for "Spirituality (Hardcover)", The Catholic Press Association described Jesus: A Gospel in this way: "This beautifully presented book blends Nouwen's reflections on selected passages from the Gospel with excerpts from his other writings, allowing the reader to see these familiar passages through the eyes of one of the most popular and beloved spiritual writers of our time. These well-chosen elements, enhanced with Rembrandt's drawings of Gospel scenes, make for a seamless study of the gospels."
The beautiful design and production of Jesus: A Gospel was also recognized with a first place award: "Superb graphics, courtesy of Rembrandt, draw one's immediate attention to this book. When opened, our eyes feast on a carefully selected series of Rembrandt drawings that illustrates the text and entrances the reader. The type and page designs are well conceived and the scriptural references on the page borders in typeface different from the body text lend themselves to painless reference. This is an example of excellent book design and production." - CPA June 2002
Jesus - A Gospel sold over 8,000 copies in 2002 for a total of over 15,000 copies since its release by Orbis Books in November 2001.
