June 28th, 2005

The winners of the 2005 Catholic Press Association Book Awards were announced on Friday May 27, 2005 at the CPA Annual Convention. In the category, "First time author of a book", Michael O'Laughlin was awarded Third Place for his book, God's Beloved: A Spiritual Biography of Henri Nouwen, (Orbis Books).

The citation for O'Laughlin's award follows:

"Anyone who has profited spiritually from Nouwen's writing will appreciate the insights of this volume. Without resorting to hagiography, the author brings the facts of Nouwen's life and spiritual journey to further illuminate the body of his work."

O'Laughlin, a former student of Nouwen's, is currently working on a pictorial biography of Nouwen, Henri Nouwen: His Life and Vision, to be published by Orbis this fall.

Eternal Seasons: A Liturgical Journey with Henri J.M. Nouwen, (Ave Maria Press), edited by Michael Ford, received an Honorable Mention in the "Spirituality” category.
